Samizdat interview

1. Please introduce your band, when was it formed, who are the members?
- Samizdat was established about 3 years ago. During the first year we recorded 3 tracks in the studio, which we only released on YouTube. Surprisingly, it received positive feedback, so it motivated us to continue. We played our first concert after a year and a half in our already legendary skinhead pub. At the end of last year we recorded our first album, which was released at the end of January this year. There are no personnel changes, we always play with the same lineup.
Martin – guitar/vocals.
Junior - bass
Pavel – drums
2. Did you play in other gangs earlier?
- In the past Pavel played in a crust punk band and later in quite wellknown oipunk band called Konec hry. Together with Martin they still play in the band Dead Masaryx.
Martin already sang in the mid-nineties in the band Zášt 88, he played drums in Beowulf, bass in Randall Gruppe and Bootboys Social Club, where he played bass and later also drums.
Samizdat is Junior's first band he plays in.
3. What is skinhead life like in Czechia?
- The scene here is starting to recover a bit again. As people get older, they return again and meet people they knew in past who are willing to organize concerts. I would say that thanks to our bands people are starting to meet again after years. No one needs to prove any political positions anymore and they really just go out to have fun, which is definitely a good thing. Otherwise, being a skinhead is still the same no matter what decade we are in. It's just that we are probably a little wiser now. It will always be problematic for the company when more than 50 skins gather.
4. Do you have opportunity to perform in your country?
- As I said, the possibilities are increasing. Basically, you could say that smaller concerts happen once a month.
5. How was the reception of your records?
- According to the feedback people like our album. After all people prefer straightforward music and lyrics that are easy to remember. We do not want to play anything complicated in the future. We will play what we can play. Moreover skins music is supposed to be energetic, aggressive and hard. We have perhaps fulfilled that.
6. What are your plans in the near future?
- We had barely finished recording of the first album and suddenly we got an offer to record a split CD with a german band. So next month we are going to the studio again to record five songs. We will not reveal more so you can look forward to it. Hopefully there will be more concerts and we will all be meeting.
7. We Hungarians have always liked Czech bands (Orlik, Branik, Vlajka, Excalibur, etc.), do you know any Hungarian bands?
- Sometime in the early 90s we played united concert with Archivum and Valhalla with the first band. Your scene is very strong, very political and well organized. We know bands like Hundriver, I think one of your first bands was Oi-Kor and the very professional Romer. Otherwise at the end of the eighties, I owned the Pokolgép – Totalis Metal LP and I have to find it somewhere again.
8. What message do you have for the readers?
-Thank you for your interest and also for your work for the scene. Greetings to all your blog readers. And maybe sometimes there will be an opportunity to play for you too. Keep the faith and stay strong.
Martin
